Following an international architectural competition, French firm Chaix & Morel et associés, German firm JSWD Architekten, and Belgian firm TPF were selected to renovate and expand the building. The transformation process was supported by a scientific advisory board composed of internationally renowned experts, ensuring the museum's content and design met the highest standards.

Architectural Marvel

The House of European History is housed in a historic building characterized by its natural stone and brick facade. The renovation included a significant overhaul, with a new glass structure filling the originally open courtyard of the U-shaped building. This modern addition, with its translucent exhibition boxes, stands in deliberate contrast to the symmetrical and robust original structure. Visitors enter the building from the park side, and the exhibition areas are accessible via a delicate staircase and two elevators in the atrium of the new glass structure. During the day, the glass facade acts as a filter, allowing light to penetrate and providing glimpses into the museum's dynamic interior. At night, the building glows from within, creating a mesmerizing effect.
