In 1932, under the guidance of Bishop Fortunato Maria Farina, the project was commissioned to Concezio Petrucci, a local architect known for his rationalist approach. Petrucci, inspired by the opportunity to blend modern architectural techniques with traditional religious elements, accepted the challenge. His design was a departure from the neo-Romanesque and neo-Gothic styles initially proposed, opting instead for a clean, functional aesthetic that emphasized simplicity and form.
