Efforts to establish a permanent church faced several hurdles, including difficulties in acquiring suitable land. However, through perseverance and a strategic land exchange with the city and a local farmer, the Catholic community finally secured a site on Hammerweg. Construction began in April 1957, and by November of the same year, the church was consecrated by Auxiliary Bishop Hermann Schäufele.

Architectural Simplicity and Grace

Designed by the young architect Rolf Steinbach, St. Josef Church embodies a simple yet profound architectural style. Its almost rectangular layout is complemented by a slightly recessed tower, both crowned with a gabled roof. The high windows along the side walls allow natural light to pour into the single-nave space, creating an atmosphere of serenity and reflection.

Inside, the church maintains a minimalist aesthetic. The altars, pulpit, and communion rail are crafted from Franconian Goldbank-Blaubank marble, exuding a quiet elegance.
