Expanding the Collection

The New Museum Location

Under the leadership of Governor Pierre Falize and other key figures, the museum moved to a new location on Rue Fumal, close to Rops' birthplace. The new museum, inaugurated in September 1987, offers a chronological journey through Rops' life, from Namur to Brussels and Paris. The second floor showcases his primary techniques, including engraving, drawing, and painting.

A Historic Building

The museum's current home is a historic building dating back to the 17th century. Over the years, it has undergone various transformations, including a neoclassical makeover in 1850 and the addition of an Art Nouveau bay window in 1898. Modernizing the Museum

Between 1996 and 2003, the museum underwent significant renovations to enhance its facilities and services. The first phase involved converting an old roasting workshop into a space for temporary exhibitions, a reserve for paintings and drawings, and an atelier for educational activities and restoration work. Subsequent phases saw the addition of new exhibition rooms, an audiovisual space, administrative offices, and a library.

The final phase focused on updating the permanent exhibition spaces, installing climate control and new lighting systems, and creating a new scenography. These improvements have made the museum a modern, dynamic space that meets the highest standards of conservation and presentation.

A Garden Inspired by Rops
