Though much of the baroque artwork was lost, earlier paintings, likely from the post-Thirty Years' War period, were partially restored.

By the late 1990s, the chapel was once again in need of repair. The structure had suffered from water damage due to its location at the base of the Schlossberg. The chapel was sold to the Arbeitskreis Staufener Stadtbild, an organization dedicated to preserving the town's architectural heritage. Thanks to generous donations and support from the State Office for Monument Preservation, the chapel was carefully restored.

During these efforts, a previously unknown medieval support wall was discovered, along with human skeletal remains, adding an archaeological dimension to the chapel's rich history. Today, the Magdalenenkapelle stands as a beautifully preserved piece of Staufen's cultural landscape.
